Discussing Chapters 18-20

You guys know what to do!  Comment your ideas, feelings, likes, dislikes on the chapters we read on Saturday.  Whatever opinion you have is completely valid as long as you can support it, explain it, back it up with clear explanations and examples.

Don't forget to also comment on at least one other person's ideas.  This, like last week's writing, is worth 10 points.

The deadline is Friday, April 22 at 8:00 pm.

Note: Many of you are not commenting on some other person's ideas... it's very important that you do this or you won't get the full 10 points!

Tip: Remember, in a good piece of writing you must put your soul there, you have to be courageous to write your true thoughts, otherwise what you wrote can seem uninteresting... the more thruthful you are, the more interesting it is for others to read and know you as a person.  Bear this in mind when you put your ideas on paper.

  1. Mr. Rochester finally confessed all his secrets to Jane, unfortunately he seems to be innocent on his miserable life, but on the other hand Jane didn`t want to stay in Thornfield any more, although her love for Mr. rochester makes her "burst into tears". Poor Jane she had to decide between her love and her reputation, especially at this time.
She left Thornfield looking for a new life far away from Mr. Rochester without nothing and nobody. "When everything was getting dark" as she said, she found a little house where the owner took her inside it. There she lived with two girls, a vicar and the housekeeper. What a relief!
Now Jane started a new life, a new work and new relashionships.
I think that it`s difficult to say what it`s the correct because when you love somebody you forgive all his or her faults, in this case Jane was so decisive that she chose the most difficult. If I were her I wouldn`t do the same because I`m not so determined as she`s. Who knows? Jane could find another love....

  2. I don't really like that Jane always said to herself her feelings, so why she didn`t say to Mr. Rochester. I understand that at this time the couple relashionship was different. However, at least she could told him....That`s unfair

  3. I agree with Bernar, I Think that Jane did the right thing escaping from Mr Rochester because if something hurts you, you have to stay away from it. Maybe the new life will cure her for the pain of love somebody with who you can't be, maybe a new love could make her forget everything, of course, including Mr. Rochester, (the big stong on her way to be truly happy.

  4. Jane told to Mr Rochester that she wanted a new life without him. He did not accept that and he was becoming angry because Jane wanted to leave Thornfield, so he told Jane the whole story, but Jane did not want to stay with him because his wife was alive.
Jane loved Mr Rochester but she had to choose, so she left Thornfield. She found a house in a small village, there she met two girls, her brother St Jonh and an elderly woman.
They was very kind with Jane, she spend a month at Moor House, she was living very good there.
Mr Rivers offer Jane a job as a schoolteacher, she accepted, Jane was starting a new life with new people and without Mr Rochester.

  5. I did not like that Jane ran away from Thornfield, they felt the same thing so she had to stay and solve the problem with Mr Rocherster.

  6. I agree with Bernar it's difficult to decide what was the correct thing to do, but perhaps Jane really wanted to forget Mr Rochester, that's why she left.
I liked the part that Jane found a place to stay, because they were good people that helped her a lot.

  7. The part i liked most was when Jane ran away.. because Mr Rochester was very selfish to ask her to stay.. If he really loves her he must tell her that he´s married; that his wife was in the house and that she was mad BUT he didn´t so, if i were Jane i would do the same thing..

  8. Cynthia's comment:

I liked the attitude of Jane, is Determined ... despite all the explanations that Mr. Rochester gave her, she would leave him... Finally left him ... one hand it shows what she has learned with her friend Helen that despite all that she suffered for him, Jane doesn’t wish something bad...

I didn’tlike that Mr. Rochester has been very desperate though it showed that if he loved her, but then who wouldn´t despair to know that you’ll lose the love of your life
So it was good to get away from him and he could find good people with whom she spent good times and learn more...

  9. This part of the story was one where we could notice Jane's character. In one hand her passion and in the other her moral.

Considering the time, Jane did the right and that's why I agree with the others. She wouldn't let somebody else talk bad about her decisions and much more reasonably after she realized what was going on in Thornfield.

But she could have been more careful and less radical because she almost killed herself alone and hungry in the moors.

  10. Well, with this whole story of Mr. Rochester’s mad wife, Jane decided to run away even after he told her all the truth, that his father didn’t like the idea of having a poor son, so he made him marry Bertha Mason (who was rich), but Rochester didn't love her and didn't know she was mad. After this Jane knew he was in some way innocent, however it didn’t change the fact that he was already married, and if Jane wanted to be with him she had to be his mistress, that’s why she didn’t give one step backwards, she has decided to do the right thing, and leave Thornfield, this give us an idea of how determined and moral is Jane, although she had to pay a high price for her decision, as Manuel said she almost killed herself alone and hungry in the moors
