Discussing chapters 9-11

The assignment is the same as the first two times... comment your ideas, feelings, likes, dislikes on the chapters we read on Saturday.  Whatever opinion you have is completely valid as long as you can support it, explain it, back it up with clear explanations and examples.  Don't forget to also comment on at least one other person's ideas.  This, like last week's writing, is worth 10 points.

The deadline is Friday, April 1 at 8:00 pm.

Note: Many of you are not commenting on some other person's ideas... it's very important that you do this or you won't get the full 10 points!

  1. Mr. Rochester told Jane about his past and Jane was curious about it. Jane was happy, because with the story of his life she could know more about Mr. Rochester character, Jane spent very good moments with him at thorfield, and with that her feelings were growing more and more.
I really liked the part when somebody tried to kill Mr. Rochester, because Jane saved him and he was very romantic with her.
Jane wanted to know who was the person that tried to kill Mr. Rochester, so she started to investigate talking with Grace Poole. Jane was a little afraid of Grace Poole "She might attack me", and she couldn’t understand why Mr. Rochester didn’t tell and do nothing with Grace.
Mrs. Fairfax told Jane about Mr. Rochester travel and where he had gone, she also told Jane about Blanche Ingram, a beautiful lady, she started to be a little jealous and told herself to forget her feeling about Mr. Rochester. All the servants were working hard, cleaning and cooking, because Mr Rochester returned at thornfield, and he invited his friends to have a party at his house. Jane listened a conversation of two of the maids, they were talking about Grace Poole Jane was very curious about it, but they finished their conversation when they saw Jane. I really want to know who Grace Poole is; she is a mystery for me.
At the party, she was there with little Adèle. Some of the ladies started to talk badly about governesses and Jane heard it, so she decided to let the party.
Blanche and Mr. Rochester were always together but Jane wasn’t jealous anymore, "I knew he did not love her".
Every saturday Jane Eyre is more interesting, I can't wait to reed the next characters!

  2. Well. now jane eyre is being a little more interesting and mysterious... Then Jane saved Mr. Rochester life's which for him was something admirable and again for him was something magical although he seems to all of it's magic .. haha the part I don't like so much was when one night she was talking in front of the mirror telling herself that she was a little thing and wasn't at his level and that is sooo typical of novels the poor girl falls for rich boy. . another part with which I identify so much where it says "I HAD NEVER INTENDED TO HIM LIVE. I HAD TRIED TO DESTROY ALL HARD FEELINGS OF LOVE FOR HIM BUT NOW THAT I SAW HIM AGAIN, I COULD NOT STOP LOVING HIM MYSELF" who doesn't was in that situation of wanting to forget that person but it seems that you assume that you forgot while but don't see it when you return to see all the love that supposedly forgotten reappears ..

  3. Jane Eyre is forgetting about her maturity, or maybe love is a new thing in her life and it is just that. I found it really silly to think in the way she does about loving Mr. Rochester. When she says "coomon sense would destroy my foolish dreams".
What I liked the most about these chapters, is the mystery around the plans of killing Mr. Rochester. I knew it that Mrs. Poole has a top-secret!

  4. As I see, this weekend I won't disagree with anybody. I have to agree with Cynthia, or Lorena, anyway, that was a very pathetic attitude haha! I think Mr. Rochester is trying to make her feel jelous, and in that way she will learn how things work about love haha!

  5. Well, Even Though I haven't read all the story I found it amazing! A combination of love and mistery that makes me want to read more and more until I get tired.
I agree with Pablo, the most exciting is the mystery of the person who tried to kill Mr. Rochester, maybe it's a secret that might put Jane Eyre in a doubt in relation of the love that she started to feel; a secret that could change her life.

  7. I agree with Cynthia, I did't like the part that she was talking in front of the mirror that she was a little thing.
For me this was a stupid attitude, but I think that in that time all the servents thought like that.

  8. Well, the story has become very interesting as mysterious things are going on in the house, for example the fire in Mr. Rochester’s room, that perhaps was set on purpose to kill him, it make us wonder, who might be this person, why is he or she trying to kill Mr. Rochester, and what is making Mr. Rochester keep all this in secret, I think this all have to be with his past that will be revealed soon I hope. Now, about Jane, I think she’s acting with low self esteem, without giving much importance to herself, and thinking that because she’s a governess, nothing can happen between her and her master, and that she’s inferior in front of the ladies from the party, this is something she has to change if she really wants to be happy.

  9. I couldn’t agree more with my classmates, all of them have exposed assertive ideas about these three last chapters that we read, as Pablo said there’s some secret kept by Grace Poole, and I think she’s being paid for that, I’m sure this will change the course of the story when it is revealed, and like the other commentaries said, I didn’t like the part when Jane talked to the mirror telling to herself she was inferior

  10. This Saturday we will read the climax of the story, or at least close to it, so for many of you (if you haven't researched a bit on it, it will be quite a surprise! ;)
I'm glad that at least some of you are finding the story interesting, which is excellent! I know that for many it's kind of boring because it's not your style of novel, but at least you can look at it in the literary point of view... how important is it to read something different than what you usually do.

  11. Ok, ok, i might agree something, i´m starting lo like the history, because, especially in these few chapters, Jane show emotions and leanrned about real feelings. Grace Poole is not important for me now, my focus is in Jane, just because she started to love someone, but a insecurity in her heart hurts her, this pain You can feel only if you are a real human, not like those heartless that we have these days, maybe i didn´t like the history at the begining, i hope the history will get even better. Ah, sorry for being late XD
